Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio Named Winner by Motor Trend for Best Driver's Car Competition

We are proud to offer the new Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifolio to our customers here at Herb Chambers Alfa Romeo of Boston because it has all the characteristics drivers desire. Of course, we are not the only ones to praise this first-class SUV. Even reputable Motor Trend critics agree! Put to the test against four formidable rivals for the Best Driver's Car competition, our model was rightfully designated the winner.

5 Premium SUVs Put to the Test by Industry Experts

SUVs are exalted largely for their versatility and utility, but times are changing. According to consumer trends, more people are demanding a model that is exhilarating in action, too. As a result, automakers are shifting their focus and developing ways to ramp up beloved crossovers. Of the selection available today, five new models leading in this endeavor include the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Range Rover Sport, Porsche Macan, Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC, and our very own Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio.

Motor Trend experts took these leaders and compared them side-by-side by pushing them to their limits out in Nevada. In their words: "the most engaging, exciting, fun-to-drive super SUV" is considered the winner of the competition. The results were as follows.

5th Place — 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk

When it comes to the numbers game, the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk hits high marks thanks to its Supercharged 6.2L HEMI® V8 which exerts a substantial output of 707 horsepower and 645 pound-feet of torque. For straight-line driving, this power source was effective in accelerating from 0-60 in just 3.5 seconds. However, its weight shifts noticeably to the rear and poses a challenge on maintaining balance. Its responsive handling pleased critics, but this attribute is compromised at higher speeds as well. Not to mention, its stopping force was less than desirable despite having Brembo® Performance Brakes. It is for these reasons the Jeep SUV came out last during testing.

4th Place — 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Sport SVR

Like the previous model, the Range Rover Sport supplies considerable strength. Its Supercharged 5.0L V8 engine generates as much as 550 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. In comparison to its past generation, it even boasts more refinement, which was apparent in its smooth performance. Yet its stability came into question when pushed to the max. Critics observed a swinging motion in the back due to its weight. Though its manufacturer is famed for building vehicles that provide off-road prowess, Motor Trend remarked that the suspension system of this Land Rover SUV did not keep up while driving on smooth, paved roads.

3rd Place — 2017 Porsche Macan Turbo with Performance Package

The Porsche Macan does better, and with a powertrain that offers less ponies overall. To be exact, its Twin-turbocharged 3.6L V6 cranks out 440 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque at peak levels. Its 0-60 acceleration rate comes in at just 3.8 seconds, which is slower than most of its opponents. Where it lacks in might, however, it makes up for in control. Whether it drives fast or leisurely, critics lauded how this Porsche SUV moves with precision. Unfortunately, there was a unanimous agreement that the overly controlled feel led to a "sense of detachment." Some went so far as to call the experience "boring" which is surprising considering the brand.

2nd Place — 2018 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC 63 S 4MATIC+ Coupe

The Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC was the penultimate choice and gave an excellent presentation. Backed by the force of an AMG 4.0L Biturbo V8, this Mercedes-Benz SUV clocks in at 503 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque at maximum effect. Of all the contenders, it proved to be the fastest, hitting 0-60 in 3.2 seconds flat. This achievement demonstrated that "SUVs don't need to be big and slow." As with the former model, however, it provided a commute that was best described as comfortable rather than engaging. Taking the purpose of the competition into consideration, it fell short of the winning position if only by a little.

1st Place — 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Q4 Quadrifoglio

Motor Trend commended the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio after seeing its capability in contrast with its rivals. Its Twin-Turbocharged 2.9L V6 generates 505 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque, permitting it to reach 0-60 in 3.5 seconds. While other models might be stronger or faster though, this Alfa Romeo SUV conveyed a sportier attitude through its dynamic steering and reliable brake-by-wire system. Some of the critics even equated it to its sedan counterpart, the Giulia Quadrifoglio, which is a testament to the fact that this option surpasses convention. Simply stated, Motor Trend said it was "phenomenal in a way that you have to experience to understand."
